| Summary: Fountain brings the kind of size and bat speed that make the ball sound different. At 6’5”, he creates easy loft with a naturally uphill path, and the raw power already sits in the plus-plus bucket. My looks showed a quick barrel for his size and hands that clear cleanly, allowing him to turn on velocity without having to cheat. The risk comes in how often the swing gets steep and how quickly spin beats him — pitch recognition will determine how much of the raw translates. Defensively, the arm is plenty strong for third, but the TJ recovery and his fully filled-out frame leave some question about long-term range. He’s athletic enough to get reps at 3B, 1B, and possibly a corner outfield spot once fully healthy, and the Padres remain optimistic that his makeup and work habits will give him every chance to stick on the dirt. Offensive impact is the calling card. When Fountain hits it, it’s loud and elevated. The challenge — and the key to unlocking middle-of-the-order value — is tightening the approach just enough to let the elite power show up against better sequencing and spin. | |||||||||||
