2026 MLB Draft: Richie Roman, RHP, Houston

Summary:
For Richie Roman, the stuff has never been the question. Rather, the translation from raw ability to results on the field has been the issue for the big right-hander. So far, it has been a struggle, but if he can start to see those results look as good as his potential, look for Roman to head up draft boards this spring.

In his repertoire, Roman features 4 pitches. His fastball will sit in the mid 90’s, reaching as high as 97 with good life. He pairs it with a splitter/sinker from 88-92, a sharp curveball with good break, and a big fadeaway changeup. He spins the ball very well, and gets good movement on all of his pitches. He has toyed around with his repertoire quite a bit, so settling on a consistent mix could be something that helps him reach the next level.

For his delivery, he releases from a ¾ arm slot, which follows a parallel leg kick and effective transition through windup. He generates lots of velocity from lower body while managing to keep it fairly quiet throughout the windup. He does separate his hands from the belt early in delivery, but starts his arm swing with good timing despite this separation. He utilizes a quick delivery from the stretch, giving catchers a chance to throw out runners.
