Summary:
Whitney has separated himself with some of the loudest pure stuff in the country. The fastball sits comfortably in the mid-to-upper 90s and has climbed higher at times, playing with plus ride and late life from a consistent, high release. The short arm stroke and pace through his delivery help the velocity jump on hitters, and he maintains power deep into outings. Whlie the arm stoke makes me nervous, you can’t argue with the results. It’s a true bat-missing heater that sets the tone for everything else in the arsenal.

Both breaking balls are legitimate weapons. The curveball shows sharp, top-to-bottom depth and high-spin traits that generate ugly swings when buried, while the slider offers a tighter, shorter look in the low-to-mid 80s that he can land or expand. The changeup has taken steps forward, flashing fade and separation enough to keep left-handed hitters honest. There’s confidence in all four pitches, and he fills the zone with a strike-thrower’s mindset despite the power profile.

The delivery is compact and repeatable, built around a very short arm action and strong lower-half engagement. With multiple swing-and-miss offerings, premium velocity, and improving command, the ingredients point toward a true frontline starter ceiling and one of the top arms in the class.
