Summary:
Santucci is a lefthanded starter whose calling card is a fastball-slider combination that gives him a legitimate foundation at the next level. The fastball sits mid-90s with carry and extension that allows it to play at the top of the zone, while the slider is the separator — a power breaking ball with two-plane action and the ability to generate chases from hitters on both sides of the plate. When he’s throwing strikes, the pairing is genuinely difficult to navigate.

Command has been the persistent question mark. Early looks showed a pitcher who could overpower hitters in stretches but struggle to harness the stuff consistently, and the walk totals reflected it. Mechanical adjustments in pro ball — improved tempo, a cleaner delivery — have moved things in the right direction, and the strike-throwing has responded. The delivery itself is clean enough: calm windup, quick arm action from hip to a three-quarter slot, works with pace. The foundation is there for the improvements to hold.

The third pitch will determine the ceiling. The changeup has flashed some dip and feel, and a curveball gives him a change-of-pace option, but neither is a consistent weapon yet. If one develops into something reliable against a lineup the second time through, the profile fits a mid-rotation starter. If it stays two-pitch dominant, the fastball-slider mix is strong enough to carve out a high-leverage relief role. The stuff was never the issue — the refinement is catching up to it.
