Summary:
Maginnis offers one of the more polished two-way skill sets in the 2027 class. At the plate, he’s a high-contact hitter with advanced bat-to-ball ability and a patient approach that keeps strikeouts low and walk totals healthy. The swing is compact with some loft intent, geared more for gap damage than over-the-fence impact, but he consistently finds the barrel and controls at-bats. There’s average raw power and speed, and while he’s played shortstop extensively, the long-term defensive fit likely lands at second or third as range matures. The arm strength is more than sufficient for the left side, and the actions are steady and reliable.

On the mound, the arm talent is legitimate. He works from a three-quarters slot with a quick arm and attacks north-south, running the fastball into the low 90s with carry traits up in the zone. The changeup is a separator, flashing heavy tumble and plus potential, and he shows feel for a mid-to-upper 70s breaking ball with spin traits. There’s not a ton of remaining physical projection, but the pitchability and feel are advanced for his age.

Whether he ultimately settles on one side of the ball will depend on developmental trajectory, but both paths carry intrigue. The bat brings polish and reliability, while the mound offers a higher-ceiling outcome if the stuff continues to trend upward.
