MLB Draft Rankings 80-71

80)

Player: Hayden Mullins Position(s): LHP
School (ST): Hendersonville (TN) Grade: High School
Bats: Left Throws: Left Height: 6’1” Weight: 180 lbs.
Quick Report: A prep lefty who has shown feel for four pitches is always a hit. His fastball can get into the mid-90s with a ton of run that he compliments with an excellent curve, developing slider, and fringe change. When he is on the mound he is there with a mission as he gets the ball and goes, pitching with good pace. The delivery is smooth and repeatable, although he gets lazy in his follow through at times.

79)

Player: Matt McCormick Position(s): C
School (ST): St. Laurence (IL) Grade: High School
Bats: Left Throws: Right Height: 6’ Weight: 195 lbs.
Quick Report: The 2018 player of the year in the state of Illinois has pop times regularly sitting 1.95-2.05, but lack of accuracy makes it play closer to the 2.05 time. He has decent hands behind the plate and good feet, to go with the fact he moves like a catcher, he will likely have to stick behind the dish to keep up his value. He has smooth, relaxed hands at the plate and stays on top of the ball well but doesn’t clear his hips as well as I like which could cost him some power. Despite the concerns, there is a ton of upside and real power potential.

78)

Player: Matt Cronin Position(s): LHP
School (ST): Arkansas Grade: Junior
Bats: Left Throws: Left Height: 6’2” Weight: 195 lbs.
Quick Report: There is no question as to whether Cronin is a starter or reliever, as he is pure reliever, but he could be a lights out closer type in time. He has a massive body bend that leaves his arm in almost an over the top slot despite it being low 3/4 in comparison to his body. There is a ton of effort, but there is also a ton of stuff. The fastball is not elite outside of the difficulty tracking it given the delivery, but his curve has shown signs of being a genuine plus pitch at any level.

77)

Player: Michael Massey Position(s): 2B
School (ST): Illinois Grade: Junior
Bats: Left Throws: Right Height:  6’1” Weight: 185 lbs.
Quick Report: Second basemen are not typically big draft prospects, but Massey can really hit, putting up an average above .325 each of his first two years on campus and fairing well in the Cape Cod League. He needs to improve his eye at the plate as he does not walk enough, but a leg kick and uppercut path in his swing will allow him to hit for solid power at the next level.

76)

Player: Austin Langworthy Position(s): OF
School (ST): Florida Grade: Junior
Bats: Left Throws: Left Height: 5’10” Weight: 200 lbs.
Quick Report: Langworthy garnered plenty of fame with his walk-off home run off an Auburn defender’s glove sent the Gators to the CWS in 2018, but his play this year should make him a name to watch this season. Quick bat path and line drive swing allows him to make good contact, although defensively he may be best suited for left field.

75)

Player: Austin Shenton Position(s): 3B
School (ST): Florida International Grade: Junior
Bats: Left Throws: Right Height: 6’ Weight: 200 lbs.
Quick Report: Shenton finished second in batting average in the Cape this summer with power. His bat gets through the zone quickly and he shows a good eye at the plate. He has all the tools to stick at third and really just needs to carry the momentum from the summer into this season to go from an under the radar prospect to a must follow.

74)

Player: Dilan Rosario Position(s): SS
School (ST): Leadership Christian (PR) Grade: High School
Bats: Right Throws: Right Height: 6’ Weight: 170 lbs.
Quick Report: The USC commit is the first Puerto Rican on the list and is another in the long line of sure handed defensive shortstops to come from the island nation. He has a quick bat that can handle velocity with ease and has an excellent first step in both the field and on the bases. He will never hit for a lot of power, but could develop into a solid lead-off man.

73)

Player: Jaden Brown Position(s): SS
School (ST): St. Marcellinus (CAN) Grade: High School
Bats: Right Throws: Right Height: 6’1” Weight: 186 lbs.
Quick Report: The lone Canadian prep player I have on my top 100, Brown has plus speed and a knack for making hard contact. I see him more as a future center fielder than middle infielder, but he certainly does not lack athleticism and will hit for power, although he does sell out for that power too often.

72)

Player: Isaiah Campbell Position(s): RHP
School (ST): Arkansas Grade: Redshirt Junior
Bats: Right Throws: Right Height: 6’4” Weight: 225 lbs.
Quick Report: A true over the top delivery along with long legs allows Campbell to get solid extension in his delivery, allowing his fastball to play up despite not being one that lights up any radar guns. He also mixes in a cutter, curve, and change, all of which he can throw for consistent strikes. He does not have the greatest of ceilings, but he has an extremely high floor and could be one of the quickest moving starting pitching prospects in this year’s class.

71)

Player: Mason Feole Position(s): LHP
School (ST): Connecticut Grade: Junior
Bats: Left Throws: Left Height: 6’1” Weight: 194 lbs.
Quick Report: Tim Cate was the UConn lefty scouts went out to see in 2018, but Mason Feole was the one they came back talking about. He struck out more than a batter per inning last season and showed success with the US Collegiate National Team over the summer. His delivery is unorthodox to say the least, with a head that bounces all over the place, a recoil with his landing leg, and an arm that comes whipping from well behind his back. He is likely a reliever long term, but he will have to be ineffective as a starter first, something he simply hasn’t been yet.
