Player: Connor Rochon | Scout Date: 3/9/19
Organization: Regis University | Position(s): DH
Height: 6’1” | Weight: 215 lbs. | Bats: Left | Throws: Right |
Hit: Toe tap into long stride leaving base wide. Back elbow well below front, should lead to pop ups but stays on top of ball surprisingly well. Bat speed below average but covers zone well. Good eye at plate and advanced approach.
Power: Bat stays on top of ball well creating backspin. More doubles power but ball jumps off bat. Average raw power suggests more HR power in bat, but redshirt senior with similar poor stance since HS likely limits upside.
Run: 8.7 double, well below average speed but solid base runner once he gets going. Haven’t seen him play the outfield, but future is a 1B/DH only based on speed.
Arm: DH on day of scouting
Glove: DH on day of scouting
Other: Stomach bug night before seeing him, still went 3/7 with two doubles.
Summary: Already named RMAC player of the week once this season, he has been a producer each healthy year at Regis as he took a redshirt his junior year after being second on team in average Freshman year and led team in hits Sophomore year. Regular producer in an underrated D2 conference, the future relies on the bat as the speed is limiting. Bat speed is concerning as I fear elite velo would prove problematic. Worthy of a late round selection in draft, wouldn’t be surprised to see him stick around minors for a few years. Indy ball target if he doesn’t stick in a MLB system. |
