2023 MLB Draft: Chase Davis, OF, Arizona

Player: Chase Davis
School: University of Arizona                                        Position(s): OF
Height: 6’1″                   Weight: 215 lbs.                    Bats: Left                     Throws: Left
Hit: Smooth swing with plenty of swagger in the box. Can swing too hard and pull off ball some leaving plenty of swing and miss. Lots of bat movement but calms late. Bat wraps heavy behind head creating longer bat path, but bat speed helps make up for that.
Power: Plus tool. The smooth swing helps create plenty of barrels and ball really jumps. Some of the biggest no doubter home runs in college. Hips fire with purpose. Upside of a 30+ HR guy. https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js
Run: Average to better that shows on bases and in field.
Arm: Above average to plus. Most time has been spent in left but more than enough to project to right.
Glove: Speed and baseball instincts would make him a serviceable center fielder but probably best suited for right field.
Other: Struggled in Cape Cod League in 2022 and Northwoods League the year before, leaves some question as to how his swing will translate to wood bats.
Summary: Davis has the swagger in the box of Juan Soto and the finish to the swing of Ken Griffey Jr., but has a style all his own. It would not be surprising to have a team put him out in center after drafting him to see if he can stick there long term, but could be a well above average defender in right field. There are real swing and miss concerns despite the pretty looking swing as he can pull off and overswing at times. There are little doubts about the power, but he will need to improve the average to better than .300 this season if he is to be a genuine first round prospect, otherwise he will be a round two or three pick.
