Player: Jacob Gonzalez |
School: Ole Miss Position(s): SS |
Height: 6’2″ Weight: 200 lbs. Bats: Left Throws: Right |
Hit: Very open stance at feet but closed through hips and torso. Front foot barely leaves ground as body levels out. Really good balance. Elite zone awareness and bat control. Quick to, long through zone. Legit bat speed with line drove plane. 60 grade to better potential https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js |
Power: Heavy load on the back foot and good hip drift into the ball to go along with the bat speed results in plenty of pop. 20 HR type power most likely, maybe a little more, but plenty of XBH in swing. https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js |
Run: 4.25 home to first from left side not impressive but decent. Average speed overall. |
Arm: Above average, more than enough for the left side. |
Glove: Despite below average speed little question he can stick at short. Easy actions, quick hands at bag, soft hands in field. Average to a little better future at position. |
Other: Number two player in my preseason college rankings at Prospects1500. |
Summary: Little argument to be had as to who the top SS is in this class, as Gonzalez is easily that guy. With a great eye at the plate and quick hands, the bat plays just fine regardless of position. Add to that the fact he is at the most important defensive position and does a very good job there, and you have the makings of a potential future star. Has done it on the biggest stage, helping lead Ole Miss to a National Championship a year ago. Not likely to be a candidate to go 1-1, but if the Pirates were to make him that pick, it wouldn’t be a reach. |
