2023 MLB Draft: Alonzo Tredwell, RHP, UCLA

Player: Alonzo Tredwell
School: UCLA                                                        Position(s): RHP
Height: 6’8″                      Weight: 230 lbs.                       Bats: Left                        Throws: Right
Pitches:
Fastball: 91-94, Heavy downhill action. limited run. Likely more velo in future
Curveball: 77-79, 11-5 to 12-6 in shape. Best when more 12-6, when moves into the 11-5 it becomes slurvy.
Slider: 81-85, Sharp late break, mainly cutting action with some depth. Can overthrow and spike at times
Changeup: 80-83, real late dip. Misses low too often. https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js
Delivery/Mechanics: Higher 3/4 slot but some inconsistencies in arm extension periodically. Limited leg drive. Good repeatability outside occasional extension/slot drift. Smooth and easy delivery especially for someone his height. Command a plus tool. Uses length well by creating plenty of natural downhill action on all pitches and body makes all pitches play up.
Other: Draft eligible sophomore. Served as closer freshman year, starter this year. Walk rate under two per nine. https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js
Summary: While Tredwell does not have the stuff that is gonna blow you away, all his pitches play up given his length and commands all his pitches. Doesn’t have this highest of ceilings, but command and four pitch mix makes likelihood of becoming a big league starter as high as any in the class. Project the upside of a number three starter but most likely a qualify four of five. Very end of day one or early day two draft pick is right spot for him.
