2025 MLB Draft: Josh Jannicelli, RHP, Cardinal Newman

Player: Josh Jannicelli
School: Cardinal Newman (CA)Position(s): RHP
Height: 6’6″Weight: 185 lbs.Bats: RightThrows: Right
Summary: A tall righty with a high release point and a ton of physical projection left certainly makes for an intriguing prospect. The fastball coming in at a steep plane makes it a ball that is tough to lift and generates a ton of ground balls. It sits 90-93 and gets into the mid-90s at times, but a future sitting 95+ after adding 20+ pounds to his frame is an easy projection. His best pitch is his changeup that comes out of his had just like his fastball with sink and real fade and had garnered some plus grades. He has a solid 11-5 curveball in the high 70s that is good enough to keep hitters off balance but the shape is largely average currently. It seems UCSB regularly finds a way to get a quality arm to campus where they turn into something even more special, and that could well be the case for Jannicelli, but a team that wants to try and get him into their system before his cost sky rockets in college could pull the trigger in the top 100 picks and nobody would bat an eye.
