| Summary: Willoughby is a loose, athletic mover with projection and arm speed that jump out immediately. His fastball works 92–95, touching 96, with heavy arm-side life that makes it difficult to square. The pitch sets the tone for a full arsenal, and he shows the ability to throw strikes with all four offerings. When he’s synced up, the ball comes out clean and easy with the makings of a frontline starter’s look. The changeup is his best secondary at present, flashing late fade in the 83–86 range and drawing consistent usage against both lefties and righties. He mixes a pair of breaking balls—a firmer slider at 81–83 with spin up to 2,700 rpm and a curveball in the upper 70s that can show bite but still wavers in consistency. The offspeeds aren’t finished products, but all three show enough life and shape to project as weapons as he sharpens command and sequencing. With a projectable frame, easy velocity, and a four-pitch mix, Willoughby fits comfortably into the Day 1 conversation. The fastball-changeup combo gives him a strong foundation, and if either breaking ball takes a step forward, the ceiling jumps considerably. With polish still needed, the ingredients point to legitimate starter upside and a path to an early-round selection. | |||||||||||
