2026 MLB Draft: Tyler Pitzer, RHP, Mississippi State

Player: Tyler Pitzer
School: Mississippi StatePosition(s): RHP
Height: 6’2”Weight: 195Bats: LeftThrows: Right
Summary:
Pitzer made a lot of heads turn this summer, posting an ERA of just 0.34 in 26.1 innings in a bulk bullpen role for the Y-D Red Sox of the Cape Cod League, earning the BFC Whitehouse Outstanding Pitcher award for himself in the process. The Mississippi State transfer proved exactly why new Head Coach Brian O’Connor brought him down to Starkville, and will look to continue his success as he heads toward the 2026 draft.

Repertoire-wise, Pitzer will feature 3 pitches, all of which will spin 200-300 RPM above average. His fastball will sit from 91-93, and primarily plays as a tunnel pitch, though the spin can help it carry over bats at times. He then features a slider in the high 70’s with sharp, late break, and also added a cutter this summer that proved a perfect compliment to his other two offerings, inducing tons of weak contact and whiffs from hitters while sitting in the low to mid 80’s.

Mechanically, Pitzer gets the most of his 6’2” frame, using his entire body to generate velocity. He tends to reach back a bit, dipping his right side slightly before whipping his arm through the delivery. He clears his hips very effectively, and despite the motion looking a little herky-jerky as a whole, he manages to repeat it fairly well.
For all the good (and there is a lot of good), walks have been a major problem for Pitzer. He has averaged more than 6 free passes per 9 innings during his collegiate career, which he will need to cut down on in order to continue the success he found this summer. He will also need to build a bit more velocity and add another pitch or two in order to truly stack up against the best of an impressive collegiate pitching class.
