| Summary: King is an athletic, high-energy defender whose versatility and explosiveness give him a chance to impact the game in multiple ways. A plus runner with quick-twitch actions, he shows the range, coordination, and arm strength to handle shortstop, though his athleticism also allows for smooth transitions to the outfield. His glove and footwork give him a defensive foundation that should carry him through the system, and Washington views him as a long-term shortstop capable of handling the position at a high level with continued refinement, although I am still not totally sold on him sticking at the position. At the plate, King brings plus bat speed and quick hands through a compact right-handed swing that produces firm line drives and flashes of opposite-field power. His timing and pitch recognition still come and go—he’s prone to chase and can pound pitcher’s pitches into the ground—but when he’s under control, he makes consistent, quality contact. Added strength has helped him drive the ball more consistently without sacrificing athleticism. With his speed, versatility, and improving offensive approach, King profiles as a fast-moving everyday player with the upside to become a dynamic top-of-the-order contributor if the swing decisions continue to sharpen. | |||||||||||
