| Summary: Based on his performance over the past two years, it should come as no surprise that Brayden Dowd was one of the most sought-after names in the transfer portal this summer. He played great baseball on both sides of the ball at USC, and now joins an extremely talented Florida State program that looks to be built to compete with the best of college baseball. Looking ahead both to this spring’s season and this summer’s draft, Dowd is certainly a name to watch. Offensively, Dowd profiles as a solid hitter with a great set of underlying numbers. His overall college slash line of .324/.429/.476 is already eye-popping, but when you add on the fact that he walks more than he strikes out, and has been building some power into an approach that already features top-notch bat-to-ball skills, hitting 10 homers last spring, it takes his player profile to a whole new level. He did struggle a touch in the Cape this summer, but should continue to grow as he continues to face the best of the best in the ACC this spring. Defensively, Dowd similarly stands out. He has the range to play all 3 outfield positions, and plays them all very well. He gets great jumps on fly balls, has the speed and aggressiveness to track them down, and the arm to throw runners out. He will most likely play as FSU’s starting center fielder this year, but should be ok no matter where he plays in the outfield. | |||||||||||
