| Summary: Gilligan is a defense-first catcher with a true carrying tool behind the plate: a plus to double-plus arm that shows up in both workout settings and live action. He produces consistent sub-2.0 pops, has a quick exchange, and shows the instincts to steal outs with aggressive back picks. The receiving is still a work in progress, but the athleticism and hand strength point toward steady refinement. Physicality and tempo behind the dish give him a chance to develop into a high-end defensive backstop. Offensively, Gilligan offers a patient lefthanded approach with more contact than impact at present. The swing works, but the profile is currently built around on-base ability rather than damage. With even modest growth in strength and consistent contact quality, the bat should provide enough to let the glove carry. As is, he projects as a high-floor defensive catcher whose arm and game management will put him firmly on Day 1 radars if the offensive track trends up. | |||||||||||
