| Summary: Whalen attacks the opposition with a legitimate five pitch mix from a three quarter slot. A physical right hander, Whalen works from the first base side of the rubber with a coiled leg lift and a well controlled, consistent delivery to the plate. The fastball has ticked up to 96mph, though sits in the 91-94mph range. He complements it with a well tunneled low 80’s change-up that garnered a .168 BAA last season for the Hilltoppers. Whalen flashes a cutter, slider and a curveball to round out the arsenal. The curveball has true 12-6 action with considerable depth which amassed a 72% whiff rate in 2025. Whalen struck out 90 across 81.2 innings of work for Western Kentucky in 2025 with a solid SO/W ratio of 2.90. A true workhorse and Conference USA Pitcher of the year, Whalen went at least 5 innings in 11 of his 16 starts. The repertoire points to Whalen being utilized as a starter, though with the depth the Tigers have in 2026 , he may see some time in the bullpen as well. A season in the SEC should only help Whalen continue to develop and bolster his draft stock as the 2026 approaches. | |||||||||||
