Summary:
Coming off of an up-and-down freshman year in Fort Worth, few pitchers impressed on the Cape more than TCU right-hander Trever Baumler. With an ERA under 1 and being named the All-Star Game starting pitcher for the Western division, Baumler took a huge step forward as his draft year of 2027 begins to approach. Should he continue to improve this spring and beyond, expect him to be a sought-after name in a class loaded with solid collegiate arms.

In his repertoire, Baumler features 3 very solid pitches. He starts with a fastball in the low 90’s that tops out at 95 with solid spin (~2200 RPM) and movement, and combines it with a curveball and changeup to form a very impressive 3 pitch mix. The curveball in particular is very effective, with good 11-5 break and sharp movement as it approaches the plate, inducing lots of whiffs when utilized, and can be used both in and out of the zone with good results. The changeup works well as a tunnel with the fastball, but also features good, late movement as it crosses the plate, making it effective on its own as well as when utilized opposite the fastball. He already owns a very good repertoire, and if he can add a 4th pitch, expect to see his stock continue to rise.

Delivery-wise, Baumler is very efficient and stock, featuring a very standard release point that stays consistent from pitch to pitch with a very mechanically sound arm circle. From the windup, he is slow and deliberate with his movements, and is comfortable out of the windup and the stretch. He gets solid extension thanks to his frame, though he could get downhill a little more effectively through his delivery. Overall, he has a very solid base of mechanics to work from, and will only get better with more experience.
