| Summary: A low three-quarters right-hander with deceptive release traits and easy arm speed, Mahoney creates uncomfortable looks for hitters thanks to a low release height, hidden ball, and clean tempo through the delivery. The fastball has touched the mid-90s and more commonly sits in the low-90s, showing late hop and arm-side tail that plays particularly well against left-handed hitters. The pitch jumps out of the hand more than the velocity suggests, giving it a chance to miss bats at the top of the zone despite modest extension. The delivery is loose and fluid with good pace, and the overall operation points to more velocity coming as he continues to mature physically. The secondary mix is still taking shape, but there are workable pieces. A low-80s breaking ball flashes two-plane action when he stays on top of it, though consistency comes and goes, while the changeup in the upper-80s remains developmental but shows enough separation to project forward. Strike throwing is solid overall, even if control wavers at times when the arm drifts. The foundation is built around arm speed, deception, and a fastball that can play above its raw velo, giving Mahoney a starter-leaning profile with upside tied to physical gains and secondary refinement. | |||||||||||
