| Summary: Molinaro returns to the Nittany Lions for his RS-Junior season after being selected by the Washington Nationals in the 17th round of the 2025 draft. A transfer after red-shirting his freshman year at St. John’s, Molinaro made an immediate impact in his first collegiate action for Penn State in 2024. Known more for his potential at the plate, Molinaro has made strides defensively at the collegiate level. During opening weekend at the MLB Desert Invitational Molinaro showed range to both his left and right while displaying an accurate arm from multiple angles. He has been known to speed up his internal clock at times which can effect throws across the diamond. As he continues to mature and become more comfortable as a defender, expect that to become less of an issue. In addition to his primary position at 3B, Molinaro did see some time this fall at 2B and SS, though the expectation is that Molinaro will stick at 3B at the next level. At the plate, Molinaro has juice with feel for launch to the pull side though is certainly capable of going the other way with pop. The power and aptitude for run production are present as he combine for 24 HR’s and 106 RBI over his first two seasons in Happy Valley. The swing is quiet and repeatable, minimizing excess movement. He keeps timing with a light toe tap as he moves into launch. He has struggled with spin at times and has shown chase up in the zone with higher velocity. Molinaro bet on himself forgoing the draft in 2025 with all signs pointing to that decision paying off. Should he have the spring he is capable of, look for Molinaro to be a top 8 round pick in July. | |||||||||||
