2026 MLB Draft: Kai Van Scoyoc, RHP, Palos Verdes

Player: Kai’Nalu Van Scoyoc
School: Palos Verdes (CA)Position(s): RHP/SS
Height: 6’1″Weight: 165 lbs.Bats: RightThrows: Right
Summary:
Hailing from Rolling Hills Estates, CA he has a thin but athletic 6’1” build and shows promise on the bump. Being that Kai is a senior at Palos Verdes HS, this likely will be his last season touching the flat dirt. While he looks comfortable in the box with his open stance and bat-twirling timing mechanism, it’s safe to say his biggest impact on the field is with his arm.

With a classic arsenal of fastball, slider, curve, and changeup Kai is able to set-up and shut down opposing batters. In my first viewing of him the fastball ran up to 92 more than a few times; complimented by a sweepy 11-5/10-4 Curveball at 75 mph. The slider works well enough to separate itself from the big breaking ball and has a tight cut-action with some vertical depth sitting around 80 mph.

What is most impressive is his ability to look fresh and compete throughout his start. His quick and repeatable delivery allows him to get down hill and stay balanced as well as replicate that delivery in the stretch. His compact arm path keeps him from presenting the baseball until release which comes from a low window at his ear. Van Scoyoc produced 8 Ks, 3 H, 2 BB and 1 ER in 4 innings of work in his outing on 2/21/26.

He has room to grow physically on his way to the next level and I think he will easily add velocity as he does so. With his feel for command, willingness to use all quadrants and bulldog mentality on the mound; Kai will prove to be an effective starting pitcher for the foreseeable future.
