Summary:
Hardcastle has taken a noticeable jump over the past couple of years, growing from an 83–88 mph look in 2023 into a mid-90s arm with real life from a lower three-quarters slot. The fastball now sits comfortably in the low-to-mid 90s and has shown the ability to reach higher, playing with late finish and enough angle to miss bats when he stays on time. There’s some effort and “tall-and-fall” to the delivery, but he repeats it well enough to project as a starter, and the frame supports continued strength gains.

The secondary mix has progressed with him. The changeup has become a legitimate weapon, showing heavy fade and late dive in the mid-80s, while both the slider and curveball give him different breaking looks depending on shape and count. Earlier looks featured more of a 1–7 breaking ball; more recently, the slider has tightened with sharper bite in the low-80s. He shows feel for the zone and isn’t afraid to challenge hitters, working with a competitive edge that shows up in longer outings.

There’s still legitimate two-way intrigue here. The bat has trended upward with consistent barrels and real raw power, and he’s shown the ability to impact the baseball with aggressive intent. That said, the upside on the mound may ultimately carry more long-term value if the fastball/changeup combination continues to sharpen. Either way, the overall trajectory is pointing up, and there’s real developmental runway remaining on both sides.
