| Summary: James has burst onto the scene over the last 18 months and continues the upward trajectory as we approach the 2026 draft. The southpaw is a developmental dream, as the 6’4″, 215 pounder’s fastball is now reaching 97-98mph. James does not come with the refinement and experience that many of the top 2026 high school prospects are equipped with, however his ceiling sits in the top percentile. James has worked hard to refine his mechanics over the last 12 months. The delivery is now more fluid and repeatable, allowing him to tunnel pitches far more consistently. From the third base side of the rubber, James rocks into a higher leg kick, which takes momentum to the first base side. He does a good job of staying linear as he works down the mound, controlling his large frame into foot strike. He lands on a firm front side allowing the energy he’s created to release efficiently. Coming from a lower three quarter slot, James has a loose, whippy arm action that creates elite movement profiles on the fastball and slider. With the now more athletic delivery, he’s shown elite extension, approaching 7 feet at times. Command will be the question as James continues to develop his arsenal and gain valuable experience against higher level competition. He has been known to spray the fastball but has shown considerable strides of late. He finds himself cracking the top 100 high school prospects as we kick off the spring season. James is a prospect that could see his value rise considerably in the coming months should he find a way to hone in command. | |||||||||||
