Summary:

Hailing from Australia, Will Baker’s baseball journey has been anything but typical, but then again, Baker isn’t your typical ballplayer. Playing all over the field for a loaded Georgia Tech team, Baker has been a key piece for one of the most dangerous offenses in the country. He has played multiple positions and posted a career OPS just under 1.000 for the Yellowjackets, making him an extremely valuable piece for a team hoping to contend for a national title.

Offensively, Baker has shown growth from the beginning of his career until now, and an ability to make adjustments on the fly. He is a patient hitter with a good eye for the strike zone, walking more than he strikes out, and is beginning to build some power into his game as well. There are some questions about whether his game translates to a wood bat environment, but a smoldering hot playoff run in the Cape Cod League last summer shows that there is some potential there.

Defensively, Baker has played both infield and outfield, but clearly seems better suited for the infield dirt. He has had some trouble tracking fly balls, and his instincts translate better to second or third base rather than a corner outfield spot. He is a solid infield defender, and is capable of playing 1st in a pinch if the need comes up.
