| Summary: Neal is a legitimate two-way prospect and both sides of the profile give evaluators something to work with. On the mound, the fastball sits in the low-to-mid 90s with solid run and sink, and a breaking ball with big two-plane action and consistent bat-missing ability is already a true out pitch. A changeup that lands for strikes rounds out a three-pitch mix with more feel and projection than you typically see from a two-way arm at this stage. Off the mound, the athleticism translates to shortstop with a plus arm that plays on either side of the diamond. The hit tool is slightly ahead of the power currently, though opposite field pop and power projection give the offensive profile room to grow into. The overall athletic profile is the common thread — the body and actions work regardless of which path he ultimately follows. Both sides are developed enough that the decision won’t need to be forced early. The breaking ball gives the pitching profile a carrying tool, and the shortstop fit and arm give the position side a legitimate defensive home. An interesting two-way evaluation that will sharpen considerably with more looks. | |||||||||||
