| Summary: One of the better hitters in the portal this summer, Jayce Tharnish has been red-hot since moving to the SEC to join Kentucky. The St. Bonaventure product starred in the Cape this past summer with Yarmouth-Dennis, being utilized in the leadoff spot during their run to the championship. Since joining Kentucky, he has continued to post excellent numbers, making him a solid Day 2 option for the draft this summer. Offensively, Tharnish is a very solid product. He hits for both average and power (collegiate OPS of .913), and has shown an ability to translate those skills to a wood bat setting from his time in the Cape. There is some swing and miss in his game, but nothing that isn’t offset by his other offensive numbers. Overall, Tharnish should be seen as a clearly above-average collegiate hitter, and one that has a good chance of making those skills work once he turns pro. Defensively, Tharnish is similarly solid. He is a natural center fielder whose speed and instincts should allow him to stick at the position. He can also play corner outfield if need be, though the arm may dictate left field over right field. However, he is a very good fielder who should be trusted wherever in the outfield he ends up sticking. | |||||||||||
