Summary:
Corniell comes into 2026 with 1.2 big league innings under his belt. His drop-and-drive delivery and low three-quarter slot create a wide angle and low release height that generate natural deception before the arsenal even enters the conversation. The fastball core is built around three distinct shapes — a four-seamer that sits 95-97 and touches higher with arm-side run and carry, a sinker that has emerged as the best of the trio with heavy movement, and a cutter in the upper 80s that bridges the gap against both platoons. The velocity and movement variety off the same arm speed give hitters a difficult read from the first pitch.

The secondary mix has the makings of a complete arsenal. A sweepy slider with above-average chase potential at its best pairs with a changeup that features excellent fade and an above-average ceiling with continued use. The cutter currently grades ahead of the slider in consistency, but the sweeper’s chase ability gives it true out-pitch potential as it continues to develop. The command history is strong and he pounds the zone with all five pitches, giving the sequencing ability a legitimate foundation to work from.

The floor is a back-end starter with a clear path to something better if the changeup sharpens into a consistent weapon against left-handed hitters and the four-seamer command improves at the top of the zone. The sinker addition and the development of the sweeper give the profile more upside than the SP4/SP5 label might suggest — the ingredients for a mid-rotation arm are present.
