| Summary: Cider Canon played his first two years of college baseball as an outfielder at Davidson College, and upon transferring to Duke for his draft year, the expectation was that he would stay there. However, Duke has played Canon mostly behind the dish so far this season, and prior to an injury sustained at the beginning of March, he had not just survived, but thrived. Offensively, Canon presents an extremely intriguing profile. He crushed the ball at Davidson, posting an OPS just over 1.000. After transferring to Duke, however, he has taken it up a notch, with an OPS over 1.500 in a limited sample size before being injured. There is some swing and miss in his game, but has shown improved patience since moving to Duke. He did struggle in a small cameo in the Cape at the beginning of last summer, but overall, presents a very encouraging profile of power and speed. Defensively, Canon is much more of a question mark. He has played catcher at Duke after not playing there since high school, and the results have been interesting. He is certainly capable behind the dish, but with his speed, the outfield seems to be his long term home. He has the range to play anywhere in the outfield, but with his arm strength, right field seems to be the natural sticking place. | |||||||||||
