| Summary: New, the 2026 WAC pre-season pitcher of the year, will unfortunately miss the remainder of the season for Cal Baptist with UCL surgery. An emerging southpaw, New began making waves last season for the Lancer’s posting 6-3 record striking out 98 over 80 innings pitched. At 6’3″, 215 lbs. New has the physical traits that will transfer to the next level. The delivery showcases a strong lower half, leveraging a firm front side at foot strike. Its a shorter arm stroke, coming from a higher three quarter slot. He works from the first base side of the rubber causing an uncomfortable at bat for lefties. The fastball sits in the 91-93 range (Topping 96mph) with run. New brings two different breaking balls to the table, both demonstrating high spin. In later innings the shapes have a tendency to blend though both remain usable weapons. He kills spin with a low 80’s change up that continues to develop. He tunnels all four well but has shown a tendency to slow the arm with the change. Command was a concern early on for New. In 2025 he demonstrated improved control of his arsenal. The frame is durable and there is still more strength on the table. Despite the injury New remains an intriguing LHP in the 26 class. | |||||||||||
