Summary:
On his best days, Macko looks like a rotation-caliber arm. The fastball sits 92-95 with above-average carry that sets up a mid-70s curveball with extreme vertical drop and high spin, and a cut-slider with plus feel to generate whiffs in and out of the zone is the most reliable secondary and the pitch he leans on most. A changeup with arm-side run rounds out a four-pitch mix that has genuine depth. When he’s spotting the fastball up, burying the slider in the dirt and getting soft contact on the curve, the arsenal is difficult to navigate.

The inconsistency is what keeps the profile from fully unlocking. Command has been below-average throughout his career with stretches of elite execution sandwiched between wild spells — the walk rate has been a persistent concern and the stuff fluctuates alongside the command, making him a threat to produce a poor outing even when he’s rolling. The curveball’s extreme vertical drop makes it difficult to land for strikes consistently, the changeup misses the zone too frequently to be a reliable weapon, and the fastball gets hit hard when located poorly. The highs are real and the lows are equally real.

The multi-inning reliever and spot starter profile is where the profile makes the most sense — shorter stints allow him to operate closer to the top of his velocity band more consistently and lean on the fastball-slider combination without the command demands of navigating a lineup multiple times. The stuff is too good for a low-leverage role, and the length ability gives him value in a versatile bullpen capacity where the inconsistency becomes more manageable.
