Summary:
Stone checks the boxes that make evaluators comfortable projecting a starter. A big-bodied, workhorse frame with a clean, repeatable delivery, the fastball sits 90-94 and has touched the mid-90s with projection remaining as the physical development continues. The overall operation is efficient and the competitive, coachable makeup gives every developmental projection added credibility — the kind of pitcher who tends to maximize what he has and then find more.

The changeup is the carrying secondary and the pitch with the most long-term upside — sinking action and feel that give him a legitimate weapon against opposite-handed hitters and a reliable put-away option when located well. A slider with improving bite rounds out the mix and gives him a second breaking ball option, though continued development of the shape and consistency will determine how much it contributes at the collegiate level. The three-pitch foundation is already in place and the frame gives the arsenal room to grow in multiple directions as the collegiate career at Mississippi State builds.

The mid-rotation ceiling is realistic if the velocity continues to develop and the changeup takes the step it’s projecting toward. The stuff and delivery give the profile more than enough to build from, and the makeup gives the ceiling every chance to be reached.
