2027 MLB Draft: Tomas Valincius, LHP

Player: Tomas Valincius
School: Mississippi StatePosition(s): LHP

Summary:
Physical build, fast arm action and a short stroke to a three-quarter slot give Valincius a starter’s foundation that checks the durability boxes evaluators want to see. The fastball sits 93-96 and has touched 97 with arm-side life that plays naturally off a low slot and generates uncomfortable swings from both sides of the plate. The plus strike-throwing is a genuine asset that allows the full arsenal to play consistently rather than in isolated stretches — a competitive, polished approach for a player his age.

The slider is the secondary with the most upside and it has already shown it. Long lateral break with sharpness at the top end and a whiff rate that reflects a genuine put-away pitch when it’s on — the projection toward a plus offering is grounded in what it has already flashed rather than pure projection. A mid-80s changeup with fade gives him a third option that keeps right-handed hitters honest and rounds out a three-pitch mix with genuine starter depth.

The mid-rotation ceiling is realistic and the physical profile gives it every chance to be reached. A thick, workhorse build with a fast arm, above-average command and a slider trending toward plus has given the Mississippi State weekend rotation a legitimate anchor — and the profile a legitimate first round potential.
