2026 MLB Draft: Hayes Holton, RHP, Loranger

Player: Hayes Holton
School: Loranger (LA)Position(s): RHP
Height: 6’2″Weight: 195 lbs.Bats: LeftThrows: Right
Summary:
A quick, loose arm that generates 93-97 with ride and carry gives Holton the kind of raw material that keeps evaluators engaged despite the rawness everywhere else. The fastball plays well at the top of the zone and has the kind of explosive action that makes it difficult to square up when it’s in the strike zone — which is part of the challenge. The delivery is athletic but unrefined, and the command has been erratic enough to earn the “effectively wild” label from multiple looks.

The changeup is the secondary that stands out. Already showing plus potential with the confidence to throw it in any count, the fade and arm speed give it a profile that plays well off the fastball and projects as a genuine weapon against opposite-handed hitters. A mid-80s cutter-like slider and a curveball round out a four-pitch mix that gives the starter path something to build on if the delivery tightens — the arsenal depth is ahead of where the command currently allows it to be fully utilized.

The athleticism is what keeps the back-end starter upside alive. A raw delivery on an athletic frame is a more workable problem than a raw delivery on a stiff one, and the stuff gives every reason to chase the rotation. The reliever risk is real and persistent command issues could accelerate that timeline, but the arm and the changeup give the profile a ceiling worth developing toward.
