| Summary: Twice drafted and twice unsigned — out of a JuCo in 2023 and Houston in 2024 — Jelkin arrived at Kentucky as one of the more seasoned arms in the class with a development path that has taken more turns than most. A lost 2025 season to elbow surgery adds another layer to an already complicated timeline, but the stuff that has drawn draft attention twice is still present and trending in the right direction as he returns to action. Working from a low three-quarter slot with a quick, loose arm and some cross-body action, the fastball sits 93-94 and touches 97 with the kind of arm speed that generates natural deception from the slot. A power slider and a usable changeup give him secondary options to build around, and the overall three-pitch mix has enough to project a rotation role if the health holds and the consistency follows. The age and injury history are the variables that will define how organizations view the profile — the stuff is real and the upside hasn’t diminished, but the window to prove it over a full, healthy season at Kentucky is the critical next step. A Kentucky program gives him a high-level environment to do exactly that, and the talent has been loud enough twice already to command attention when he’s on the mound. | |||||||||||
