2026 MLB Draft: Avery Ortiz, INF, Oklahoma State

Summary:
Avery Ortiz has not had the most luck with injuries, but despite them, has shown a high level of talent on both sides of the ball. The Oklahoma State product has yet to play a full season of college baseball, but the stats show an impressive array of skills that will serve him well as he moves through the college ranks and, eventually, into professional baseball.

On the offensive side of the baseball, Ortiz demonstrates an advanced approach combined with impressive raw power. A strong swing allows him to elevate the ball with authority, and the numbers across the collegiate seasons show the results, with 16 home runs in only 92 collegiate games. He has also found success in summer ball, meaning that despite the limited sample size, there is ample evidence that he can flat-out hit.

Defensively, Ortiz is solid enough, and his versatility (he has played second base, shortstop, third base, and left field) means that he can be an asset on the defensive side of the ball as well. He is sure handed, though his range could use a little bit of work, but he is by no means a liability wherever he plays.
