2026 MLB Draft: Jack Slightom, RHP, Lyons Township

Player: Jack Slightom
School: Lyons Township (IL)Position(s): RHP
Height: 6’5″Weight: 215 lbs.Bats: RightThrows: Right
Summary:
A tall, projectable frame with significant strength still to add gives Slightom a velocity trajectory that has moved dramatically in a short window — climbing from the upper 80s as a junior to now touching 96-98 with carry and arm-side run. Above-average extension and an unconventional release out front make the fastball jump on hitters beyond what the velocity alone would suggest, and the expectation is for the heater to settle into a more sustainable mid-90s range as the development continues rather than living at its current peak.

The sweeper is the secondary with the most long-term upside, sitting in the upper 70s to low 80s with strong spin characteristics — a dropped arm slot helps generate the shape, which gives it bite but is also a mechanical variable worth watching as he advances. A mid-80s cutter adds a different look, and a changeup with tumble and fade has shown some feel but has barely been used — developing it into a weapon against left-handed hitters is the clear next step as the arsenal rounds out. A side-step delivery with a low arm slot gives the entire mix natural deception that compounds the fastball’s effectiveness.

The ceiling is genuinely difficult to pin down given how much physical development remains ahead of him — barely 18 on draft day with one of the more dramatic velocity jumps in the cold-weather class this spring. The trajectory and frame give every reason to believe there’s more coming, and the evaluation should sharpen considerably as the summer circuit provides more looks.
