| Summary: Already a heralded prospect, Franklin Arias has been perhaps the biggest riser in a year that has seen many Red Sox farmhands take a step forward. Adding an impressive power stroke to a mature approach at the plate and fantastic defense on the infield dirt has seen him shoot up the prospect rankings and be considered for a potential late-season call up to Boston. With the bat, Arias had always had a good presence in the box and impressive bat-to-ball skills, but this year, the power in his game has been taken to a whole different level. When you combine that power with his overall talent at the plate, you get one of the most complete hitters in minor league baseball. His swing is very smooth, with a big, deliberate leg kick that gives way to active hips and controlled violence through the hitting zone. He is very comfortable going to all fields, with great hands that control the bat well. On defense, Arias is an extremely smooth fielder, with great range to both sides and an arm that will certainly allow him to stick at shortstop. He makes hard plays look routine, and can play both middle infield positions with ease. | |||||||||||
