| Summary: Pitts has emerged as one of the more exciting defensive center fielders in the country, a sturdy, well-built athlete who has the build scouts associate with a finished pro frame already, with room to carry even more strength without losing the current level of quickness. The glove is the carrying present tool — real closing speed in the gaps, a strong first step, and instincts that let him reads balls off the bat about as well as anyone in this class, all delivered with a composed, under-control demeanor in center. There’s still some rawness around the edges, mostly hesitation working the warning track and wall, but that’s a minor blemish on an otherwise plus defensive projection. The bat grades fringy on paper, but the way he uses it plays up. Pitch selection is average and he can get pulled into chasing pitches in on his hands, yet he’s shown a real knack for spoiling pitches he can’t drive and working counts deeper than the raw hit-tool grade would suggest, consistently directing the ball back the other way late in counts. Power currently sits fringe-average and the oppo-heavy approach further limits over-the-fence production, pointing more toward a doubles-and-stolen-bases offensive shape than a middle-of-the-order bat. The swing factor to watch is a real split in performance depending on the arm angle he’s facing — some of the best contact skills in the class against left-handed pitching, with a much more pedestrian look against right-handers. It’s not a settled part of the profile yet, and how it resolves will meaningfully shape whether this ends up an everyday bat or more of a matchup-driven role.
