| Summary: Andersen is one of the younger arms in his draft group, and the present stuff already looks ahead of the usual timeline. He’s a long-limbed, slender righthander with easy athleticism, a quick arm, and a consistent delivery that ends in a stable position. The strike-throwing is ahead of where it usually is at this stage. The fastball sits 92-94 and touches 95, and it moves arm-side, where he can lean into more downward action when he chooses. He moves it around the zone with confidence, high and low. Evaluators expect the velocity to keep climbing as he fills out, with the upper 90s a realistic future reading. The curveball is the most advanced secondary, a mid-70s breaker with big depth and a consistent shape. He can land it for strikes or drop it out of the zone for chases, and it tunnels well off the fastball. More velocity on the pitch as he matures should move it toward plus. The slider has flashed plus in its best look, with a sharp finish, but the shape hasn’t settled, with some looks tighter and harder and others wider. Committing to one will help it play. He also throws a changeup with real feel, and the way his release and fastball shapes play together gives it room to become his best pitch. Everything here points to a starter. The arsenal is already deep, the strikes are in place, and the physical growth and added velocity are still ahead. As the fastball firms up and the slider finds one shape, this reads as a starter with a high-round ceiling. | |||||||||||
