| Summary: Carmichael is a right-handed hitter with a polished bat and no glaring hole in his offensive game. The stroke is short and tidy, with his hips and hands firing together, and he sprays contact through the middle of the diamond with a good feel for the strike zone. His damage comes mostly when he pulls the ball, where he lifts it with real strength, and more loft could push that production higher. A nagging wrist injury hurt his output in his first pro stint, and it reads as a temporary dip. Behind the plate he’s a good athlete who is still finishing the job. He gets side to side well for a catcher, which shows up when he has to smother balls in the dirt, and the ball leaves his glove fast on throws. The arm itself grades fringy, though it’s gaining strength. Framing and receiving are where the work sits, as his timing and the spot where he sets the glove both need cleaning up. The athleticism also gives him a fallback to play elsewhere in an emergency. No tool dominates, but nothing is a liability either. A step forward in a couple of areas would move him from a useful role catcher into line for a regular job behind the plate. | |||||||||||
