| Summary: Ramirez is a right-handed hitter who goes after the strike zone with confidence and drives the ball hard to all fields. His raw power grades plus, and his bat is quick enough that fastballs haven’t been a problem for him, even at a young age. He came up through the outfield before turning to catching, and the bat is what first got him noticed. At the plate, he starts from a clean setup that flows into a short swing with a leg kick, and he’s already shown he can change things on the fly over the course of a year. He reaches pitches across the width of the zone and sends contact to the middle and the opposite field regularly. His walk totals are solid, which suggests the bat-to-ball skills can reach an average grade. He goes for too much at times and needs to work longer at-bats. Time lost to injury cut into his output, and the pop lagged when he returned, something to watch as he gets back to full strength. Behind the plate, he’s improved steadily over his time in pro ball. The arm grades plus, the receiving continues to get better, and the blocking remains the piece that needs work. Added size has made it easier to picture him holding up at the position, and the organization expects him to stay at catcher. The missed time set the defensive development back, and with other catchers ahead of him in the system there’s no reason to push the pace. He isn’t a factor on the bases. If the glove continues to progress, he could be an everyday catcher built around his bat. The power and the hitting ability give him a valuable skill set no matter how far the defense comes. | |||||||||||
