| Summary: Coy is an infielder who gets on base and handles the barrel with confidence. His contact skills are well above average and his discipline is strong. He controls almost every pitch he swings at in the zone, adjusts well side to side, and prolongs at-bats by fouling off close pitches. He picks up spin easily. The swing path is flat with a lean toward line drives, and his load is small and relaxed, with a small leg raise and almost no weight shift. Power is the limiter. It grades fringe-average at present, and while it should improve with experience, a modest number of home runs is the most he’s likely to produce. The hit tool is above average and the game power is below, so his value comes from contact, walks, and speed rather than impact. At shortstop, he has soft hands, a strong arm, quick first steps, and the range to hold the position, and he makes throws from awkward positions. He can speed up when a play falls apart. His future is in the middle infield, with second base possible if a more dynamic defender arrives. He’s a plus runner, faster in a straight line than going around the bases or ranging toward the hole. He’s a steady, dependable infielder with a hit-first bat. The speed and on-base ability make him useful, and the power won’t carry much of the weight. | |||||||||||
