| Summary: Foster is a left-hander with long limbs and a frame that clearly has more to give, and added strength has lifted his stock over time. The delivery is easy and sound, with a free-moving arm, long extension, and a steady supply of strikes. The fastball averaged 93-94 in-season, touched 96, and was reportedly clocked at 100 this fall. The high slot and the extension give it some natural deception. His best secondary is a changeup that drops in the low 80s with late fade and low spin. He also throws a cutter in the upper 80s to low 90s and a slower, looping curveball that has shown more depth when he stays on top of it. It’s a four-pitch mix delivered from a high slot. Command has been a mixed picture. In high school he was a pitcher with a feel for the craft, and in college he’s become more of a power arm, with earlier notes calling for more strikes and a drop in command. The most detailed recent look found a delivery that holds together and keeps finding the zone, which is what he needs as the velocity grows. He projects as a starter. Several of his peers have bigger stuff at this point, but if the added weight and muscle arrive, he could sit in the low-to-mid 90s with three pitches and plenty of strikes. | |||||||||||
