| Player: Freddy Zamora | Draft Day Age: 21 | ||
| School: Miami | Position(s): SS | ||
| Height: 6’1” | Weight: 190 lbs. | Bats: Right | Throws: Right |
| Hit: Good command of the strike zone, doesn’t chase too often. Tapped into some power a season ago and really started to drive the ball. Mild leg kick but good balance and quick bat. Bat likely a late lineup guy but has the upside of a leadoff hitter. Will steal some bags although not a burner. I see a ceiling of a .270 hitter and about a dozen long balls, his value comes from the elite position he plays. | |||
| Field: Possibly the second-best glove from the college ranks. Nothing elite but does everything really well. Above average arm, range, glove. His quality defense leads to him seeming bored on routine balls leading to simple errors and mental mistakes. Has the chops to play anywhere on the diamond but there are no questions he can stick at short. | |||
| Summary: Had Zamora not suffered a season ending ACL tear before the season started, Zamora would have been likely first rounder. He went to Miami as a glove first shortstop but has developed into a quality bat in his time with the Hurricanes. Whatever team drafts him will be getting a steal as he will likely be going much lower than he would have had he been healthy. It will be interesting to see how the evaluation goes on the knee given doctors are unlikely to see him before the draft given COVID. | |||
