Player: Dylan Crews | Draft Day Age: 18
School: Lake Mary HS (FL) | Position(s): OF
Height: 6’ | Weight: 190 lbs. | Bats: Right | Throws: Right |
Hit: Good bat speed with quick hands. Minimal load with hips in sync with hands allow him to maximize power. Drops bat head straight to ball allowing him to barrel up the ball often. Too much swing and miss during showcase circuit, want to see better plate discipline. Upside of .280 hitter and 30 HR.
Field: Played center in HS but future is in right. Arm is above-average allowing him to make enough throws to stick in right. Good feet and average athleticism means no concerns about ability to be at least average on bases and covering ground in a corner.
Summary: Signability concerns may lead Crews to go undrafted and attend LSU instead, so the draft rules and players heading back to Baton Rouge will be an interesting story line. He struggled in the showcase circuit last summer and may be hurt by not having a HS season to change the narrative. If he was a guy with any thoughts of sticking in center he would be significantly higher, instead a likely second round selection needing first round money. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him go undrafted with only five rounds and improving to the point of being a sure-fire first round selection after three seasons at LSU. |
