Player: Dax Fulton | Draft Day Age: 18
School: Mustang HS (OK) | Position(s): LHP
Height: 6’6” | Weight: 225 lbs. | Bats: Left | Throws: Left |
Fastball: 89-93 MPH. Big downhill plane. Heavy ball that plays up thanks to length. Some run. Above average future offering.
Change: Well behind FB and curve. Mid-80s offering could use some greater gap in velo from FB. Future average offering.
Curve: Between 2-8 and 1-7 break. Best offering with plus upside. Would not be surprised to see a slider develop off the curve as a fourth offering. Sharp rather than looping but breaks the entire delivery with late drop.
Delivery/Mechanics: Despite injuring his elbow late summer, the mechanics and delivery are actually quite smooth. Good control over a long body that has already filled in well but can handle plenty more weight. 3/4 slot with leg drive and extension allowing pitches to play up.
Summary: Top two prep lefties in the class after last summer were Nate Savino and Dax Fulton, but Savino bypassed his senior year and the draft (turned out to be a smart move) to enroll at Virginia and Fulton went down with Tommy John surgery. Easy decision to keep as a starter, has the upside of three average to plus offerings with potential of adding a fourth. Repeats delivery well, consistent arm slot with the body to eat innings. Doesn’t have massive ceiling, but a quality number three is a good upside to project. |
