School: Huntington Beach HS (CA) Position(s): C/1B |
Height: 6’2″ Weight: 235 lbs. Bats: Left Throws: Right |
Hit: Excellent plate discipline, rarely chases. Good low hand load, fluid swing. Can step 1B side at times but usually stays closed well. Real bat speed despite slightly long path with bat head, knob stays quiet, strong wrists create bat speed. |
Power: Plus potential. PG All American Game HRD winner. Ball really jumps. Crushed HR in Tropicana at PG National. Wrists are strong and generate the bat speed that leads to real pop. Strong lower half that fires well with hands. |
Run: Not fast, speed that fits a catcher. |
Arm: Above average arm strength, above average accuracy give the arm plus potential. Arm will be main tool if he sticks behind the plate. |
Glove: Below average lateral mobility and receiving, meaning an uphill battle to stick behind dish. Not out of the realm of possibilities, but most likely long term spot will be first base.https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js |
Other: Arizona State Commit. Goes by Ralphy. |
Summary: Rare combination of power and plate discipline. If he moves to first the bat will play just fine. Not confident he sticks as catcher which is the only reason he isn’t a day one consideration. Automated strike zone could increase his value as the arm is more than enough to be an average defender. Has the upside of being a .275 and 30 HR hitter with an OBP over .350. Third round grade. |
