Player: Walker Martin |
School: Eaton HS (CO) Position(s): SS |
Height: 6’2″ Weight: 190 lbs. Bats: Left Throws: Right |
Hit: Quick bat to zone, stays in long to allow for plenty of contact despite it possibly being his lightest tool currently. Smooth swing, not afraid to use whole field. Wide base and long stride but clears hands well and body remains in sync. https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js |
Power: Above-average raw, real current pop for prep middle infielder. Plenty of projectability in body to suggest reaching above-average power is realistic with a shot to flirt with plus power. Some loft in swing helps ball travel and will lead to plenty of home runs and has a knack for finding gaps. |
Run: Average to better current. Athletic enough with enough range to stay at short, some concern it drifts to just average as he grows and may end up at second or third. |
Arm: Plenty of arm to be serviceable anywhere on the diamond, not going to wow with strength but pretty accurate. Average grade |
Glove: Smooth fielder at all positions. No reason the glove can’t play anywhere in the dirt. Like arm, not a jump off the page type, just smooth and consistent. Reliable. |
Other: Arkansas commit. 19 on draft day, draft eligible sophomore if makes it to campus. QB on football team. |
Summary: Colorado prep draftees has largely been limited to arms in recent years, but that will almost certainly change this year. Given his time commitments on the football team, even more raw than the typical Colorado bat. Despite that everything he does is smooth whether in the field or at the plate. Can really drive the ball and I like the hit tool more than most. I would be comfortable taking him in the top three rounds, if he moves off short it will be because he outgrew the position and that will come with more power. No standout tool but legit average to better five tool player. |
