Pitches: Fastball: 91-96, late tail. 94-96 in showcase single inning outings, 91-94 in extended outing and does lose some velo as game progresses. If he can have it sit more in his showcase velo and movement deep into outings as he matures, can be an above-average offering if not plus. If it stays in the 91-94 range, will need to improve command for it to be better than average. Slider: 80-84, cutting action on a 10-4 plane that is more sharp with late depth than it is a big breaker. Inconsistent command but gets plenty of whiffs and weak contact. Easy average projection, could become more above-average. Change: Low 80s, rarely used but has flashed average potential with late fade and dip at it’s best. Curve: Upper 70s, Only seen a few, bigger breaker 11-5 plane, need to see more to get projection but has flashed at least average. |
Delivery/Mechanics: 3/4 to a bit higher due to some elbow bend and late effort and recoil. Late effort comes via some shoulder pull that leads to missing glove side with fastball and spiking breaking balls. Some inconsistency in leg drive but typically solid, can go a bit more fall than drive at times. |

Summary: Kent absolutely has the potential to be a solid starter long term and has plenty of room on his frame to fill out as well. That said, the arm bend and late effort along with the fact the stuff takes a real step back later in ballgames screams reliever. Either way, there is plenty of value to be had in Kent come the draft and Arkansas will have a tough time getting him to campus. The biggest focus in development will be sharpening the secondary offerings and commanding them better, but there is real potential for four average to better pitches in his arsenal. |
