Player: Blake Wolters
School: Mahomet-Seymour (IL) Position(s): RHP
Height: 6’4″ Weight: 210 lbs. Bats: Right Throws: Right
Pitches: Fastball: 89-94 over summer, 98 at PBR Super 60, reports of 99 this spring. Some arm-side run. Slider: 82-84, Sharp cutting action. Curve: 80-81, Slurvy 1-7 breaker. Not used often, does play well off slider given similar velo and depth the slider lacks. Change: 78-80, not used much at all and can get flat.
Delivery/Mechanics: Big leg kick, mostly tall and fall but added some more leg drive than the summer (could help explain velo jump). 3/4 slot with some effort in the finish at times but good balance throughout. Solid command for power prep arm.

Summary: Coming out of the summer, Wolters was a guy to keep an eye on and was on the fringes of being a guy that made it to campus. After the velo jump in the winter and proving it wasn’t a fluke come spring, the fastball has made him almost a lock to be in pro ball. With a sharp cutting slider to play off the fastball and a curve I like better than most, he has three pitches that should allow him to stay in a rotation. The change may become something in time but right now it is pure projection. If Wolters does end up in the bullpen, the fastball-slider only combo will be just fine as a power arm at the end of a game.
